BASEBALL POSTGAME: WKU @ FAU (Final out highlights)

April 18, 2010

Break out the broomsticks!!  The Owls take both games in a twin-bill on Saturday after winning game one Friday night to sweep #19 WKU right out of Boca Raton.  It’s the first sweep of a  three-game series in Sun Belt play for FAU  since March 21-23 of 2008 against MTSU.  The victories cap off a 4-0 homestand for FAU, and the Owls improve to 3-3 on the season against ranked opponents.

However, it wasn’t easy.  Here’s how the final two outs played out….

In game one, Eddie Cassidy was the hero, his walk-off base hit with the bases loaded propelled FAU to a 5-4 victory in the 10th inning…..

In the nightcap, FAU erased an early 5-0 deficit to hold on for a 9-8 victory.  WKU had the tying run rounding third in the ninth, but a baserunning mishap gave the victory and the sweep to the home club….

…the Owls (22-14, 12-6) now stand alone in third place in the Sun Belt standings, jumping ahead of MTSU and WKU over the weekend.  FAU will rest up on Sunday and Monday before traveling to Ft. Myers on Tuesday for a crucial non-conference game against a quality opponent, Florida Gulf Coast.
